Every beach trip ends the same way: kids soaking wet, feet full of sand, and a car that somehow manages to bring half the beach home with us.

Recently, my wife went to Aldi and came back with something I didn’t have in my outdoor gear add-to-cart list — an Adventureridge 8L Outdoor Shower.

It’s basically a portable, pressurised water tank with a shower head.

Given that we never really go off-grid, I wondered: why?

Yes, we go camping but it’s at caravan parks where there are proper toilets and hot showers.

Turns out, she had a very good use case in mind.

The Problem

We’ve all been there.

After a beach session, the kids are still wet, sandy, and salty. Then we head back to the car and — like bees bringing in pollen — we somehow manage to pollinate the car with sand.

Add the sticky saltwater feeling and it’s just uncomfortable all around.

Not all beaches have showers nearby. And even when they do, they’re usually packed, wet, sandy, and not very inviting.

The Solution

The simplest solution? Bring your own fresh water.

Just enough to wash off sand and salt before getting back into the car.

This is where the Adventureridge Outdoor Shower comes in handy. The weather gods of Melbourne were in a good mood so we got to test it out.

What Like About It

There are plenty of DIY ways to rinse off at the beach — jerry cans, bottles, even garden spray bottles — all clever and practical. But here’s what I really like about it:

  • Pressurised – it packs enough punch to wash away sticky sand and other debris you may have.
  • Multiple spray modes – strong spray for blasting sand off feet, gentler modes for hair and faces.
  • Compact – it doesn’t take over the boot.
  • Sealed – no leaks, no spills in the car.
  • Looks good – functionality matters, but I love carrying good looking gear around. Just makes me feel a little more hardcore than I really am.

Funny enough, I saw someone in the car park using a Bunnings spray bottle — smart and effective, no doubt — but mine feels like a proper outdoor setup rather than a workaround.

Final Thoughts

We’ve only used the Adventureridge Outdoor Shower once, but it’s going to be a must-have on quick beach trips.

That night, we didn’t just rinse the kids’ feet — we gave them a proper shower right there in the car park. It was about 9pm, already dark, and no one else was around. By the time we got home, the kids were already in their PJs and fast asleep.

For us parents, that meant one thing: less chaos, more downtime. Priceless.

The only slight caveat is the water temperature. The water was cold, and our toddler wasn’t a fan of the full shower. Our older daughter, on the other hand, took it well and actually enjoyed it.

Verdict: I’m not going to the beach without this thing anymore.
